Member Church News: Challenges, Cries, Visits

This week, the Republican National Convention is bringing 50,000 visitors to Cleveland, home of the United Church of Christ national offices, creating a host of challenges and opportunities for those living in the city and working at the denomination’s headquarters.

Over 350 people attended the Uniting Church in Australia’s Fijian National Conference at scenic Mt. Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland from 7-10 July.

A cry for peace in South Sudan from Christine Olmeda, of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, who served for three years as a missionary water engineer in South Sudan.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of evangelical mission in the indigenous Paiwan area, three Presbyterian Church in Taiwan officials paid a thanksgiving visit to Rev. John Whitehorn, a missionary sent by Presbyterian Church of England serving in Taiwan from 1951 to 1970, and widely recognized as the pioneering translator of the Bible in the Paiwan language.

The youth reminded the Council for World Mission Assembly afresh and very poignantly of the connection between church and real life issues. Enabled by the Spirit, they called us back to an integrated spirituality through their profound and thoughtfully crafted presentations.

An ecumenical youth conference aimed at shaping a new ecumenical paradigm in Asia brought together fifty young people at the HKBP Theological Seminary in Pematangsiantar, Indonesia from 12 to 13 July.
