We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us. Proust
…Travelling with intentionality…Not just the intention to get from A to B …but with an awareness that each mile has lessons to teach us.
Dear friends,
This letter invites you to participate in an extraordinary event, related to the World Council of Churches 10th General Assembly being held in Busan, South Korea, Oct. 30-Nov. 8, 2013.
The major focus which the Korean Host Committee wishes the world to understand is the depth of the pain of the divided Korean Peninsula, divided through the action of the Allied Forces after the Second World War, then further by political systems brought through outside forces, solidified by a terrible civil war and maintained today through hostility, suspicion and fear.
As a way to symbolize the hope of overcoming these, and making that hope concrete, a Peace Train has been proposed, (yes, a real train travelling many miles and many days) to bring people to Busan. Through those days, over those miles, you will gain insights of how the God of Life can lead us to Justice and Peace, hearing and telling the stories, learning the truths, taking part in peacemaking and prayer.
With this letter, you will find information about and registration material for the Peace Train; also available on www.peacetrain2013.org
People interested will be able to join the train at 3 stations – Berlin, where there will be a program Oct. 6-8; Moscow, program, Oct. 10-12, or Beijing, program Oct. 22-24. The train will arrive in Busan Oct. 28.
There will be subsidy for those who need financial assistance to come along.
We look forward to hearing from you about this exciting time.
The Peace Train Committee
Korea Host Committee for WCC 10th General Assembly
The Peace Train is not a regular train, but a life-time opportunity. Bringing unity with our luggage onto the train and sharing our vision of peace with each other we can become one body in Christ, as it is said in the Scripture: ”Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it”. I Cor. 12:27
